In the Kolašin Health Center on December 10, through the counseling center for reproductive health, a cervical cancer prevention campaign was started.
That campaign will last until the end of this month, and examinations are performed every working day, in the dispensary for women, between 15:XNUMX a.m. and XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.
In addition to preventive examinations, according to Dr. Danka Marković, a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, cervical cancer screening for the HPV virus is also ongoing.
"Unfortunately, only a small number of women regularly perform gynecological examinations. When a woman comes, due to any gynecological problem, we also perform a preventive examination and advise her about the importance of a preventive examination. Along with preventive examinations, cervical cancer screening is also ongoing to HPV virus, which is the cause of cervical cancer in 95 percent of cases in order to raise awareness among women to perform regular gynecological examinations," says Marković.

She reminds that a woman should visit a gynecologist once a year in order to prevent serious consequences.
As Marković says, changes on the cervix can be diagnosed early, because there are methods of PAPA test and colposcopy, which are performed in every gynecological clinic.
"WHO data are alarming regarding cervical cancer in many countries, including ours. The state and the health system are doing everything to reduce the number of cervical cancer patients. In addition to preventive examinations, since 2018, cervical cancer screening has also been carried out The screening is very well designed and there is no possibility that the change in the cervix is not diagnosed in time, which is proven by the fact that this year, as part of the screening, we had three patients with a diagnosis of CIN-3 (severe dysplasia), which were successfully cured by conization of the cervix," says Marković.
According to her, preventive check-up is very important, and this indicates that, in the past five years, there was only one patient in Kolašin, who suffered from cervical cancer, and who did not show up for a preventive check-up for 12 years.
Marković says that the vaccination of girls and boys against the HPV virus, which is carried out in children's dispensaries and the Institute for Public Health of Montenegro (IJZCG), is also underway.
There are all possibilities of prevention and early diagnosis of changes on the cervix, says Marković, if women come for regular examinations. She reminds that "in many Western countries, especially Scandinavian ones, the percentage of women suffering from cervical cancer has been drastically reduced with the use of vaccines and regular preventive examinations".
