The President of the Municipality of Tivat Željko Komnenović and the Acting Manager of the Municipality Ivona Petrović participated in the final regional conference of the joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe "ROMACTED II - Promoting good governance and empowerment of Roma at the local level", which was held in Istanbul, Turkey .
On this occasion, Komnenović was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his participation in the ROMACTED program and partnership cooperation.
"The conference gathered around 200 participants, including representatives of relevant entities from the local and central level, from seven countries of the Western Balkans and Turkey, which participated in the implementation of the Program. The event aims to analyze the achieved results, as well as challenges and opportunities, and to explore possible directions for further development and cooperation between partners," the local administration of Tivat announced on the occasion.
They note that the Municipality of Tivat was involved in both phases of the Program, on the occasion of which a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed with the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights.
In the second phase of the Program implementation, the Local Action Plan for the Social Inclusion of Roma and Egyptians 2023-2027 was drawn up, and work was also done on solving the challenges faced by the RE population in Tivat, in cooperation with the community and institutions.
"One of the important results is the implementation of projects within the ROMACTED small grants scheme. Workshops were organized on access to rights and services in various areas: education, employment, legal status, health and social and child protection. A member of the Egyptian community was engaged, who passed training for work in the Secretariat for Social Activities of the Municipality of Tivat for a period of four months. The Tivat Primary School 'Drago Milović', which is attended by the largest number of children from the Roma and Egyptian community, is equipped with an IT classroom. with 10 laptops, a projector and a printer, and for students from the Roma and Egyptian communities, training was organized for the acquisition of IT skills, which 50 of them passed," the Municipality stated.
The ROMACTED program has been implemented since 2017 in the Western Balkans and Turkey, with the aim of building political will and sustainable engagement of local authorities in improving democratic local governance, as well as strengthening capacities and stimulating the empowerment of representatives of the Roma and Egyptian communities to contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring of plans and projects concerning their communities.
The program was implemented in 78 cities and municipalities across seven countries, beneficiaries of the program: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Kosovo. The target group of the Program were local public administrations and Roma and Egyptian communities.
