Long-time journalists-editors at Radio Television of Montenegro (RTCG) Vesna Pejović and Žarko Božović and former ombudsman Danijela Popović pointed out the scandalous behavior of the RTCG Council, which failed to elect an ombudsman even in four attempts because none of the RTCG candidates were to their liking.
This is written in a joint statement by Pejović, Božović and Popović, in which it is stated that they visited the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Montenegro.
The announcement also states that Pejović and Božović were also candidates for ombudsman in the Public Service in the last, fifth competition.
"They discussed self-regulation in Montenegro from its beginnings, the importance it had in the pre-referendum period, as well as the current situation with special reference to the worrying events in the Public Service during the election of the protector of citizens' right to timely and truthful information. Pejović, Popović and Božović pointed out to the scandalous behavior of the Council, which did not even elect an ombudsman in four attempts because none of the candidates from RTCG were to their liking for half a year, by the will of the Council and the management of that house, despite numerous violations of the Code of Journalists as well as complaints from citizens and public reactions, she was complacent and complacent in the illegal decisions and behavior of the Council and the general director," the statement reads.
It is added that "the more than problematic choice, in the fifth attempt, of a new ombudsman who does not meet the requirements of the new competition adapted to him, along with the debatable interpretations of the lawyer in charge of the RTCG Council" was particularly pointed out.
"They also pointed to possible corrupt practices. Because of all this, Pejovićeva and Božović filed a lawsuit in which, among other things, the annulment of the decision on the election of Ivan Ivanović is requested. Certain disputed decisions of the general director are also highlighted, which call into question not only the reputation of the house which he manages more broadly, and the issue of the huge budget financed by the citizens, who in return receive more than a modest production of often questionable quality, is emphasized," the announcement concludes.
Pejović and Božović announced on December 14 that they filed a lawsuit against the members of the RTCG Council due to the election of the RTCG ombudsman.
On November 19, journalist Ivan Ivanović was elected as the new RTCG ombudsman with four votes.
