The problem of abandoned animals is one of the pressing problems on the streets of Podgorica that requires urgent action, said Tamara Tomić from Preokret.
He believes that this issue, in cooperation with volunteers, veterinary clinics, the Administration for Food Safety and Phytosanitary Affairs, the Municipal Police, "Cleanliness" and the veterinary inspection, could be resolved in the next three to five years.
"The first phase of solving that problem would be a public call to pet owners for vaccination against rabies and chipping them with a focus on suburban and rural areas. A certain number of applications should be collected in the local community, when, possibly with the good will of the veterinarian, they would come once monthly on site. Alternatively, volunteers could be organized to schedule and transport the animal to the nearest veterinary clinic," she said.
He says that the emphasis in the entire action is on the legal obligation of vaccination that the owners have, "but this time with the help of the Capital City in carrying it out", that is - the local self-government would subsidize these payments from the budget.
"This activity should be started from the Konik-Vrela Ribnička Municipal Health Center. Finally, the whole process should be rounded off with the construction of an asylum for cats. This approach shows that the problem of abandoned animals is not only recognized but gradually but comprehensively solved, which would also contribute overall communal order in Podgorica," the announcement reads.
