Montenegro has submitted the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) to the Energy Community, the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development announced.
Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development Damjan Ćulafić participated in the meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Energy Community held in Vienna, at the invitation of the Director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community, Artur Lorkowski.
It was announced at the meeting that the contracting parties have made progress in the decarbonization of their energy sectors, when it comes to decarbonization and carbon prices.
The meeting brought together the ministers of energy and the environment, as well as high representatives from the region in order to determine priorities for the coming year.
The meeting was opened by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, this year's chairman of the Energy Community, Staša Košarac, along with the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jorgensen, and the Deputy Director General of DG ENER, Mechthild Wörsdörfer.
Among the key results was the adoption of the Recommendation for accelerating the deployment of renewable energy and the approval of the List of Projects of Interest to the Energy Community (PECI).
Also, the meeting emphasized the importance of the transposition of the Electricity Integration Package (EIP) as a key step towards the integration of the electricity market of the contracting parties in the EU.
At the meeting, the Ministerial Council welcomed the Final Impact Assessment Report for the establishment of a regional emissions trading system in the Energy Community contracting parties, which represents an important input for next year's discussion on carbon pricing for the Energy Community that is in line with the enlargement policy.
The Deputy Director General of DG CLIMA, Jan Dusik, presented the climate and economic benefits from the introduction of carbon prices in the contracting parties, in order to prepare for EU accession.
On the sidelines of the meeting of the Ministerial Council, Ćulafić held a meeting with Dusik, where they discussed climate goals and Montenegro's efforts to harmonize the national legislation with the EU Acquis.
The meeting also discussed the National Energy and Climate Plan NECP, which was submitted to the Energy Community.
Also, a bilateral meeting was held with the Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Izet Medziti. Forms of future cooperation were agreed at the meeting.
