After Kotor, Žabljak and Plužine, Nikšić also got a Via ferrata, and the "iron road" about 120 meters long is located on the rock of Orlin, next to the Salt Lake.
"It is a very popular content all over the world, especially for those who like adventure vacations and adrenaline sports. In recent years, we have been trying to valorize the Salt Lake in the right way and we have recorded an expansive growth when it comes to interest in this lake. The ferrata is an additional content that We want to complete the story we started two years ago about the Salt Lake as an adventure center, and we hope to create even better conditions", said the director of the Nikšić Tourism Organization, Mitar Barać.
As he pointed out, tourists coming from the countries of Western Europe are interested in an active holiday, so they will try to complete the tourist offer with such and similar contents in the future.
"During the summer season, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and cycling around the Salt Lake are available for tourists here. It's up to us to create even better conditions, especially when it comes to the shores around the lake itself," said Barać and recalled that during the spring campaign "Our city, our o(b)draz" they cleaned the waste from the location where it was installed Via ferrata.
The Via ferrate project was supported by the Ministry of Tourism, and they implemented it with the "Montagna travel" agency.
"This project is similar to the projects we have already done in Montenegro and I think this will be of great importance for the tourism offer of Nikšić. This is the safest insurance there can be. Via ferata is built according to standards, so it is suitable for both mountaineers and tourists who have no experience in climbing," said Petar Backović from "Montagna travel".
The ferrata is located twenty meters from the lake, and the total length of the cable is about 120 meters. The time required to tour this route will be from 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how ready people are.
