Residents of Srđevac and the surrounding villages blocked the Bijelo Polje-Berana main road today at noon, in that place, outraged by the construction of a quarry.
They said that they would not allow the opening of another quarry at any price and announced that they would also seek help from international institutions.
Residents of Srđevac, Poda, Trubina, Jagoča and other villages blocked the main road for an hour and announced that, if no one from the authorities addresses them soon, they will next block the roundabout in Ribarevine, towards Bijelo Polje, Berane and Podgorica.
Srđan Šćekić reminded that the concessionaire Vojsilav Smolović, owner of the company "Imperial" and brother of the President of the Municipality of BIjelo Polje, Petar Smolović, obtained permits for the quarry during Duško Marković's technical mandate.
"We are asking the republican authorities for an answer whether their ancestors are the Smolovići or the 2.000 inhabitants, whose survival is in question. If you see Bioča, behind the hill from our houses, where there are two quarries, there is not a single green leaf. Smolović is building a quarry on 200 meters from the asphalt road, everything would be cheaper for him. He could build in a row where there are two existing quarries, which are not close to the houses, but he won't," he said Šćekić, adding that his house is located 500 meters from the quarry.
He pointed out that Smolović's claims that there are no water sources in the area are not true, stating that about a hundred houses are supplied with drinking water from Strmica, right next to the quarry.
"It is an area rich in water and we will not allow another Jablanica, not even at the cost of our lives. Here we are all engaged in agriculture, so that we can plant a rock, but if a quarry is opened, we will not be able to sell even a head of cabbage," Šćekić said.
He said that it is not true, as claimed by Smolović, that they are controlled by the owners of other quarries and that he would not even allow his own brother to open in that place.
