The Center for Civic Education (CGO) called on the ruling parties to refrain from further attacks on those who want to induce positive changes through peaceful gatherings, and the highest state officials to stand up for the protection of democratic principles and support the right to protest.
As announced by CGO, that non-governmental organization (NGO) provides strong support to students from the informal group "Kamo sjutra", which opened up important social issues.
"Putting the spotlight on the responsibility of institutions and their leaders for the protection of citizens and their basic rights - the right to truth and justice," the statement added.
The CGO said that they were happy that the students showed the initiative to influence the addressing of the problems that burden society, which, as they said, was given an impetus, unfortunately, by the tragedy in Cetinje.
"Additionally, the student demands indicate that they are aware of the depth and breadth of the problems we are living in, so they are also looking for a valid systemic response, which we support," the statement said.
It is stated that the CGE also encourages youth activism and the development of critical thinking through its programs.
"In this context, we consider it encouraging that the male and female students have shown a high level of civic awareness and courage to come forward through their actions so far through the informal group "Kamo sjutra", and that acted as a motivation for many citizens to support them directly at the protest." the statement said.
CGO believes that student advocacy is not a threat to a democratic society, but an inspiration and a call to everyone's responsible action for the common good.
"That's why, instead of targeting and trying to discredit these young people through party channels and channels that serve them, whether it's the media loyal to the authorities or other individuals and groups who do it through social networks, their struggle should be recognized as an expression of a healthy conscience that deserves the support of the citizens of Montenegro. Those dedicated to the public interest", said CGO.
The NGO called on the government parties to refrain from further attacks on those who want to freely express a critical attitude and to induce changes for the public good through peaceful gatherings.
"The real threat to the democratic development of society comes from attempts to stifle their voice and freedom of opinion, and it is especially dangerous when it comes from those who control the security apparatus," the statement said.
CGO called on the highest state officials to stand up for the protection of democratic principles and support the right to free expression, assembly and protest.
"And condemn those who want to stifle those principles with pressure, ground attacks and dangerous labeling from the positions of the authorities", says the announcement.
The CGE called on citizens to use their rights guaranteed by the Constitution and laws in advocating for what they consider to be right and necessary in the democratic consolidation of Montenegrin society.
"We know where we will be on January 16 at 19:30 p.m. - in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs," stated the CGO.
In this way, as they said, they will show their support for male and female students.
"Just as we have supported protests many times in the years behind us, when objective problems were pointed out and responsibility and solutions were sought, as they are doing now from the student group Kamo Sjutra", the statement added.
