Due to the increase in the number of inhabitants in all parts of the capital, there is an increase in the amount of all types of waste, so during 2024, 645.246 kilograms of waste material were collected at recycling yards.
This was told to "Vijesti" by Podgorica's "Čistoća", emphasizing that this is over 30 percent more than in 2023, when 493.433 kilograms of waste material were collected.
"These quantities also include cardboard packaging that we collect from legal entities that have signed a one-year cooperation agreement," said the company headed by Dennis Hot.
They said that during and after the New Year holidays, no larger amounts of disposed waste were recorded compared to previous years.
"During the New Year and Christmas holidays, cleanliness enabled citizens to adequately dispose of various types of waste at recycling yards in the settlements of Tološi and Zabjelo, for all those citizens who carry out selective waste disposal," they said.
As they added, citizens have the opportunity to selectively dispose of waste in containers located in public areas, which are marked with wet and dry fractions.
"An analysis with the 'Deponija' company established that citizens do not respect this principle, but that mixed waste is deposited in both," said "Čistoća".
As they said, due to the tradition of placing Christmas trees during the Christmas holidays, this year, as before, there is a larger amount of plant waste in the total quantity.
When it comes to improper waste disposal, they said that they had budgeted funds for the inventory and rehabilitation of so-called illegal landfills in the capital.
"We repaired them after identifying them and obtaining approval from the Secretariat for Communal Affairs," said the city company.
They also said that mini-dumps next to containers and in other public areas are being removed daily, according to a previously established plan by region, as well as field observations.
For those who improperly dispose of waste, "Čistoća" does not have any sanctioning mechanisms:
"Our main activity is the collection and transport of waste. Methods of sanctioning improper waste disposal are provided by the services of the Capital City, the Municipal Inspection and the Municipal Police."
