President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović called on the Prosecutor's Office, the Parliament and other bodies, within their jurisdiction, to review the efficiency and legality of the institutions' actions in the case of the 2006 train accident near Bioč, in order to investigate any shortcomings and determine full responsibility.
On the eve of the 19th anniversary of the Bioče accident, in which 47 people died and more than 200 were injured, Milatović received representatives of the NGO "Train of Unrelief - Bioče 2006", the president of the association Goran Vojinović, the father of one of the injured passengers, and Biserka Boričić, the wife of the injured railway worker.
"On that occasion, the President of the State expressed his deep sympathy for the families who lost their loved ones and the survivors who still bear the burden of the tragedy, from which our society has not recovered to this day," his office said.
Milatović said that accidents like this "remain permanently inscribed in the collective memory of Montenegrin society", adding that it is up to the competent authorities to take all necessary measures to provide adequate assistance and support to all injured passengers and family members of the victims, "who are still living with the consequences of this accident today".
"Also, the President of the state emphasized that the efforts of this Association are extremely significant, especially in relation to their fight for truth and justice, care for surviving passengers and families of those who were killed, as well as in preserving the memory of the accident," the statement added.
Representatives of the NGO "Train of Non-Disease - Bioče 2006" informed Milatović about the previous and planned activities, which, among other things, relate to the improvement of safety measures in railway traffic.
"On January 23, President Milatović will visit the memorial at Bioča with representatives of this Association and thus pay tribute to those killed in this accident," his office announced.
