The Supreme State Prosecutor's Office (SPO) is trusted by 64,1 percent of citizens, which represents an increase of 14,5 percent compared to the previous year, and the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SPO) is trusted by 64,8 percent of citizens, which is an increase of 9,7 percent compared to 2023, announced Deputy Prime Minister Momo Koprivica.
He said that the results of the survey on the perception of the State Prosecutor's Office, supported by the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, conducted during October and November 2024 on a representative sample of 1005 citizens, are a measure of great success and reform, "primarily personnel-related, of this state body, but also of overall qualitative changes in the state."
Koprivica stated that more than half of respondents (51,5 percent) support the work of the Supreme State Prosecutor (SSP) Milorad Marković, which represents an increase of 13,9 percent compared to the 2023 survey.
Also, Koprivica points out, support for the work of Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović has continued to grow, with 57,6 percent of citizens supporting his work, which represents an increase of 2,8 percent compared to the previous year.
"The objective results of this independent research are the best confirmation of the quality of the work and reform of the State Prosecutor's Office, which in the past was a symbol of public distrust due to the cover-up of crime and corruption, as well as chronic passivity. At the same time, these findings on the growth of trust are a strong negation of the accusations of structures that politically protect the heroes of the Sky application, even by planning and implementing illegal obstructions through institutions in which there are still imprisoned figures of the former regime, because it is clear to everyone that such a significant and continuous growth of support in the eyes of the general public can only be achieved through professional, courageous and non-selective work. The State Department's award to GST Novović for 2023 'Champion in the Fight against Corruption' is a testament to such work," the statement reads.
Koprivica said that the growth of trust in the state prosecution additionally obliges the state to continue reforming the judicial framework.
"In the previous period, the Government has undertaken significant reform activities to improve the position of the judiciary as a whole. In the coming period, based on a professional, inclusive and systemic approach, further reform of procedural legislation, strengthening the material and financial position of judicial office holders, as well as resolving pressing problems related to spatial capacities, is ahead," he added.
"Finally, I would like to congratulate VDT Marković and GST Novović, as well as all state prosecutors who, through their professional work, have contributed to the fight against corruption and crime and to restoring public trust in state authorities," the statement said.
