Deputy Speaker of the Montenegrin Parliament Nikola Camaj invited the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, to visit Montenegro.
Camaj, as announced by the Assembly, today attended the General Audience held by Pope Francis in the Vatican with a delegation.
It is stated that Camaj, after the audience, spoke with Pope Francis.
"On that occasion, Camaj presented, on behalf of the Montenegrin Parliament, an official invitation to Pope Francis to visit Montenegro, emphasizing that it would be the Pope's first visit to our country," the statement said.
Camaj and Pope Francis also exchanged protocol gifts, as reported.
The Assembly said that Camaj also met today with the Deputy Secretary of State of the Holy See, Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra.
Para thanked Camaj for his contribution in mediating the obtaining of permission to transfer land for the construction of the future papal nunciature in Podgorica.
Camaj said that the process of obtaining approval was accelerated with the support of the Minister of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property, Slaven Radunović, the Government of Montenegro and the Capital City.
