AMU: The indispensable role of journalists in building a civil and democratic society

Journalists in Montenegro are guardians of the right to information and freedom of expression, and their role is indispensable in building a civil and democratic society, the Agency for Audiovisual Media Services (AMU) announced.

They sent their congratulations on the occasion of the Montenegrin Journalists' Day, which is celebrated in memory of January 23, 1871, when the first issue of the newspaper "Crnogorac" was printed in Cetinje.

"This date symbolizes the beginning of the written word in the service of public interest and social responsibility. Journalists in Montenegro are the guardians of the right to information and freedom of expression, and their role is indispensable in building a civil and democratic society. Despite the difficulties and challenges they face, they have shown an exceptional level of commitment. Their professional and personal integrity, degree of freedom, as well as working conditions, represent the basis for professional, ethical, independent and objective reporting. On this path, all institutions, organizations and citizens must be their strong support. The Agency for Audiovisual Media Services will certainly continue to be a partner and support in these efforts," announced Damir Nikočević, an official of the Agency.
