The Presidents of the Municipality and the Assembly of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević and Nemanja Vuković, together with the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality Zoran Tomić and his associates, visited the reconstructed Street 11 and the children's playground in the Integral settlement, infrastructure facilities with which, as they pointed out, they started 2025. The value of the works on the reconstruction of the aforementioned street amounted to 100.000 euros, while the construction of the children's playground cost 55 thousand.
Kovačević recalled that they planned to celebrate the completion of the works at the beginning of the year, but that they postponed it due to the tragedy in Cetinje.
"Street 11 has been in very poor condition for years, which locals have complained about. We heard their voices and created all the prerequisites for the situation on this street to be sorted out and now look decent. This year, like all the previous ones in our mandate, began with completed projects and a series of projects that will be started this year - all for the benefit of our fellow citizens and with the aim of improving infrastructure and living conditions. We will continue to do so in the future," said Kovačević, according to a press release.
He pointed out that this local government has been running an election campaign for four years because it has been working for all four years.
"As we gain experience, the intensity of the work increases, which means that in the coming period we will work even harder and probably earn the trust of our citizens again, so we will have four pre-election years again," Kovačević assessed.
According to him, the rehabilitation of streets where Vodovod carried out work in previous years, such as Školska 10, Trebješka 5 and 6, is beginning, while the adaptation of Dragovolučka Street is underway.
"We are trying to work everywhere, but we are also focused on priority issues that need to be resolved as soon as possible. We know that there are a lot of problems. Nikšić was a neglected city, but we have invested our maximum, and I think we have resolved all the main issues that needed to be resolved during this period. Now we are facing a period in which we can practically resolve everything to the end regarding the city and suburban settlements when it comes to infrastructure," said Kovačević, the statement said. Nemanja Vuković pointed out that the children's playground in the Integral settlement is the twelfth playground built in Nikšić and that work is underway on the construction of sports fields and children's playgrounds throughout the municipality.
"When you hear them talking about the campaign and that all this is part of the election campaign, then we can agree that this is not the first street that has been repaired, that this street did not wait for the elections, but rather tenders were announced on time. We have continuity in repairing roads in our city. All this that we are doing to improve the infrastructure in Nikšić is not something that is done before the elections, as our predecessors were used to, and then they probably start from their own way of working - but something that has been a continuity in the past four years in this city. This is an indicator that in cooperation with citizens, as we have done in these four years, we are achieving the best results. This was an initiative of the locals, and work should soon begin on Street 79 in the Humci Local Community," said Vuković.
Local resident Veselin Šturanović recalled that 25 years have passed since all the streets in that area were built, while Street 11 has not been built, even though they sent several requests to the local governments at the time.
"Now you have the opportunity to see how a local government that cooperates with citizens functions. In response to the letter we sent, they did everything they could, and in the shortest possible time we received what we have been asking for for so many years. I would like to thank them on this occasion and wish them to continue doing so, because only if they listen to the citizens, if they work and function together with them – and they have shown that this is exactly how they do it – can they continue to do their job in the best possible way. I wish them to continue doing so, and to work, as they have done so far, for the benefit of all citizens," said Šturanović.
Secretary of the Secretariat for Investments and Projects Jelena Šekarić said that the contractor on Street 11 was the company "Akropolis" from Nikšić and DOO "Vodovod i kanalizacija", while the contractor on the playground was the company "Tangram". Expert supervision was carried out by the Nikšić Agency for Design and Planning.
