The preliminary design for the reconstruction of part of the building of the former Hydrographic Institute of the Navy of the Army of Montenegro in Lepetani (HIRM), where the local administration of Tivat, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior, intends to temporarily relocate the police station in that city by the end of the year, should be completed in about ten days.
This was confirmed to "Vijesti" by the director of the Investment Directorate of the Municipality of Tivat. Vlado Brguljan who said that only after the project is developed will it be known exactly how much the total investment will cost.
The municipality has already allocated 50.000 euros in its Public Procurement Plan for this year for the adaptation of the former HIRM building, but it is certain that this will not be enough, and that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will also have to participate with additional funds, with which the local administration of Tivat will sign a special memorandum of cooperation on this occasion.
The HIRM building was built between the two world wars and has been abandoned for years and is in a rather poor condition. The idea of the local administration of Tivat is to arrange temporary premises for the functioning of the police station in a part of that building, because the existing dilapidated wooden barracks, which has housed the Tivat Security Department since 1979, is in a catastrophic state and has almost started to collapse.
The barracks, which is located in an attractive location across from Porto Montenegro and the school center in Tivat, is due for demolition and removal because the site, which is just over 2.700 square meters and is owned by the Municipality of Tivat, must be freed up for the upcoming construction of a new, modern joint Fire Station and Police Station, which should also be built in partnership between the local government and the state.
The Municipality of Tivat recently held a national architectural competition worth a total of 45.000 euros to develop a conceptual design for the new Fire Station and Police Station and selected the best solution, namely the work of architects Matija Vujisić i Mladen Kadić from Podgorica.
