Residents of nine Bijelo Polje villages said today that they will not allow the destruction of the region by the opening of a quarry in Srđevac, for which the concession was granted to the company "Imperijal", which is owned by Vojislav Smolović, brother of the president of the Bijelo Polje Municipality, Petar Smolović.

They blocked the Bijelo Polje - Berane main road for an hour today at noon, in the town of Srđevac.

They reiterated that they expect the Government to terminate the contract with the concessionaire.

Denis Hasanagić said that the locals will not give up on their demands and will persevere until the end.

Ilija Nedović said that they are ready to take children on the road and prohibit the use of machinery.

During the protest, large columns of vehicles formed on both sides of the Bijelo Polje-Berane main road.

Environmental activist Dino Ramović recalled that the destruction of Bijelo Polje began with the closure of factories.

"Then the exodus of people began and this is now the final phase of the destruction of Bijelo Polje, because quarries are springing up in all directions," he said.

The locals once again called on the Government and Prime Minister Milojko Spajić to grant them the rights guaranteed by the Constitution and terminate the contract with the company "Imperial".

The President of the Local Community (MZ) of Lozna, Safer Spahić, reiterated that the MZ was not informed about the public debate that was conducted in the Municipality, while the Municipality previously told Vijesti that everything was done transparently and according to the law.

"I am now publicly saying that the local community knew nothing about it, nor did it sign any paper, nor did we give consent," said Spahić, adding that the local community stands firmly with the locals.

In addition to non-governmental organizations, the locals were also supported today by representatives of the coalition "For the Future of Montenegro" and Democratic Montenegro, while the Bosniak Party previously said that they support the locals' demands against the opening of the quarry.
