The Constitutional Court has initiated proceedings to review the constitutionality of the Statute of the Municipality of Žabljak, which stipulates that the Municipality has a baptismal feast celebrated on August 19, the day of the Transfiguration of the Lord, a holiday celebrated by the Orthodox Church.
The Statute from July 2018 stipulates that the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord is celebrated in a manner to be regulated by a special decision of the Municipal Assembly, and that the Municipality may also have other holidays. The court told Television Vijesti that the proceedings were initiated at the initiative of a citizen.
In December last year, the Constitutional Court initiated proceedings to review the constitutionality of the decision to make May 12, the day of Saint Basil of Ostrog the Wonderworker, the feast day of the Municipality of Nikšić because, among other things, the local parliament had not previously obtained the consent of the Government of Montenegro, thereby violating the principle of legality.
