Over 60 percent of Montenegrin citizens do not follow the public service - Radio Television of Montenegro (RTCG) regularly, even though they pay for it through the Budget of Montenegro, ten percent never do so, and less than 30 percent follow it regularly.
The Center for Civic Education (CCE) announced that this is shown by a survey conducted from December 16 to 23, 2024, using the CAPI method, on a stratified random sample of 1.022 adult respondents. The DAMAR Institute provided expert support in conducting the survey.
CCE also announced on the Iks network that according to this research, RTCG has a stable, but limited audience.
They also stated that when asked "How often do you watch RTCG?", 29,1 percent of respondents answered - Daily, 35,7 percent - Several times a week, 25,2 percent - Occasionally, while ten percent answered - Never.
"The perception of political influence and unequal treatment of different political options also affects the assessment of the professionalism and objectivity of RTCG, and the fewest believe in the independence of RTCG. Only a quarter of citizens believe that RTCG treats political structures equally, while slightly more than 30 percent think that this is partially the case, a little less than 20 percent that it favors the government or has no opinion, and around three percent that it favors the opposition," the CCE statement submitted to the media states.
The non-governmental organization (NGO) stated that there are polarized views on how much RTCG raises topics of public interest, especially those that point to omissions or scandals by powerful people, with about a third thinking that they do so, and two-thirds saying that they do not or cannot assess it.
CCE announced on Iks that the survey asked the question: How much do you agree with the following statements about RTCG? (scale 1-5), and what the results showed:
RTCG is subject to political influence – 3.35.
RTCG shows professionalism – 3.33.
RTCG treats political options equally – 3.20.
RTCG reports objectively – 3.13.
RTCG is independent in its work – 2.81
CCE said that the findings are part of the project "Media for Democracy: Strengthening the Independence of RTCG for the Future of Montenegro", which is being implemented with the support of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
