The capital city of Podgorica has submitted an application for the European Youth Capital 2028.
"The initiative for Podgorica's candidacy for this prestigious title was launched last year in cooperation with numerous partners from the Ministry of Sports and Youth, institutions, the civil sector and international organizations, when the President of the Capital City Assembly, Dr. Jelena Borovinić Bojović, gathered stakeholders to ensure that the preparation process was as high-quality as possible," the local parliament announced.
The European Youth Capital is, as they explained, an initiative of the European Youth Forum, an international youth organization, which is based on empowering young people, improving their participation and strengthening European identity in cities. "The initiative promotes European cooperation among young people, with a special emphasis on improving the everyday life of young people in the city that bears this title, not only during the event but also in the long term," they added.
They say that a quality application has been prepared.
"The process of preparing and applying for this prestigious title was demanding, especially considering that during the period in which it was necessary to direct all capacities to the preparation of a quality application, the Capital City was operating under a technical mandate. However, despite these limitations, we prepared a quality application. We formed a Working Group that brought together representatives of the Capital City, the Youth Office, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and the NGO sector, and which worked diligently on preparing the comments and suggestions that we received in the previous period from numerous partners. I am grateful to everyone who participated in shaping the application from the very beginning, and we owe special thanks to the consultant, who ensured that these suggestions were adequately represented in the application and her contribution to the entire process. We hope that Podgorica will be the youth center of Europe in 2028," said the President of the Capital City Assembly, Jelena Borovinić Bojović.
The cities that have progressed to the next phase of the candidacy will be known in April, when the Capital will also receive feedback on the application itself. The initiative for Podgorica's candidacy for the European Youth Capital will, as announced, in the long term contribute to the promotion of the city at the European level, improving the lives of young people, strengthening infrastructural and organizational capacities and harmonizing with European standards.
