The Health Insurance Fund (HIF) announced that the new Rulebook on indications and methods of using medical rehabilitation in health institutions that provide specialized medical rehabilitation will be implemented as of today.
They emphasize that the regulation adopted by the Health Insurance Fund expands the rights of patients who are referred for rehabilitation to the "Dr Simo Milošević" Institute in Igalo.
For the first time, the right to medical rehabilitation is exercised by insured persons diagnosed with osteoporosis with pathological fracture and epilepsy (after surgery).
"Children with a brachial plexus injury after birth, instead of the previous 21 days in each calendar year until the age of five, will be entitled to three rehabilitation sessions of 21 days in the first year and 21 days in each calendar year until the age of ten if there is a significant neurological deficit," the statement reads.
Children with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), regardless of the type of drug therapy, will have the right to rehabilitation at the Institute, and for the first time, patients over the age of eighteen will also have the right to two rehabilitation sessions per year.
Children with cerebral palsy, instead of up to the age of fifteen, will now have the right to one rehabilitation session per year, lasting 21 days, until the age of eighteen.
Patients with Friedreich's ataxia, instead of once a year, will now be entitled to rehabilitation twice a year.
Patients with hereditary spastic paralysis of both legs will be entitled to rehabilitation once a year, instead of every other year.
Patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), who were entitled to rehabilitation once a year, will now have the opportunity to exercise their right to rehabilitation twice a year, lasting 21 days.
Patients who experience subarachnoid hemorrhage, brain hemorrhage, and brain infarction will be entitled to rehabilitation twice in the first year, with the possibility of extending for another 14 days at the suggestion of a physiatrist from the Institute in Igalo.
For the first time, children with traumatic spinal cord injuries will, instead of one rehabilitation session in the first six months after surgery, have the right to 21 days of rehabilitation each calendar year until they reach the age of eighteen.
Patients with seropositive and seronegative rheumatoid arthritis stages I, II and III, psoriatic arthritis stages I, II and III, and joint inflammation in children stages I, II and III will be entitled to rehabilitation every second year, instead of every third year.
Children with bronchial asthma will be entitled to 21 days of rehabilitation each year between the ages of three and fifteen.
Children with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease from the age of one to fifteen will now be entitled to one rehabilitation session per year, after hospital treatment.
They point out that the rehabilitation of patients at the Igalo Institute, which is defined by the new regulations, is completely free for HIF insured persons and is entirely funded by that fund.
"By expanding the rights of patients referred for rehabilitation to the Institute in Igalo, the current management of the Fund once again proves that it follows the trends of modern medical practice and makes a significant contribution to improving the health status of insured persons, which is the basic mission and priority of our institution. In the coming period, we remain open to any kind of proposals and suggestions from doctors and non-governmental organizations dealing with this issue, aware that there is always room for improvement and providing the highest quality health care to our patients," the statement reads.
