Locals living near the quarries in Bijedići and Srđevac, where the quarries will be built, have announced a joint road blockade on Sunday at noon at the Ribarevina roundabout, on the main roads towards Bijelo Polje, Berane and Podgorica.
The organizing committee invited all citizens of the municipality of Bijelo Polje, from the north and throughout Montenegro, and activists of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to join.
"On that day, we will once again point out the ecological problems that the citizens of these places face, with a clear message that we must preserve what is left, which is the natural wealth of this region," they said in a statement signed by Iljaz Hasanagić on behalf of the organizing committee.
Citizens living in Bijedići and Srđevac and surrounding villages have repeatedly blocked roads, dissatisfied with the opening of quarries by the concessionaire company "Elas", owned by Šućar Omerović, and the company "Imperijal", owned by Vojislav Smolović, asking the Government to terminate the contracts.
