The Bosniak Party called on the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, as well as the management of Radio and Television of Montenegro, to include a program on Bosnian language and literature, as well as Bosniak history, in their regular programming.
"Today is International Mother Language Day, and on this occasion we send our congratulations to all citizens of Montenegro, who are part of the diverse linguistic wealth. The mother tongue of Bosniaks, the Bosnian language, is one of the key elements of the national identity of this indigenous people in Montenegro, and in Montenegro, as well as in other countries where Bosniaks live, the Bosnian language is in official use. As such, the Bosnian language has been standardized and normed for more than three decades. This day reminds us of the efforts that the Bosniak Party, as the only authentic representative of Bosniaks, has made to include the Bosnian language in the Constitution of Montenegro, as the mother tongue of Bosniaks. The national identity of Bosniaks and their right to name their mother tongue - Bosnian, are a permanent asset of modern, multiethnic and civic Montenegro, in the foundation of which members of the Bosniak people selflessly participated," the statement reads.
They say that the Bosnian language, although officially recognized, is not sufficiently represented in the Montenegrin education system.
"The implementation of Bosnian literature and language is still lacking, which is unacceptable and unfair for a language that is the third most numerous. Let us recall that according to the latest census, almost 6,97% of the population of Montenegro speaks Bosnian. This data is a clear sign and an appeal to all relevant institutions to include content from Bosnian history, literature and language in their regular content. In the hope that the Bosnian language, as the third most numerous language in Montenegro, will also be evenly represented, we once again appeal to the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, as well as the management of the Public Service, to include a program from the Bosnian language and literature, as well as the rich Bosnian history, in their regular program," the Bosniak Party announced.
