The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, awarded the Medals for Courage to Tea Adžić, Nikola Radonjić and Aleksandar Mišnić, Milatović's Public Relations Office announced.
"A year ago, Teo and Nikola pulled a woman out of the cold and swollen Zeta River in Danilovgrad and saved her life. Not long after, Aleksandar Mišnić from Mojkovac, without thinking about the consequences and the danger to his own life, jumped into the cold Tara River and saved a fellow citizen from certain death," the statement reads.
It is stated that Milatović, in presenting them with the decorations, expressed respect for their courageous deeds, which, it is emphasized, set a living example for their generation and all citizens on how to help people when things are most difficult.
He said that their extraordinary feats have instilled hope that the younger generations in Montenegro will continue the tradition of their ancestors and preserve the moral code characteristic of Montenegrin society, which, he said, Njegoš also wrote about when he said that "it is easy to be good in good times, but heroes are recognized in suffering."
"President Milatović emphasized that their actions confirmed that a bright future awaits our country and society when it has such youth, woven from virtues, courage, and noble deeds," the statement said.
It is added that the medal winners thanked Milatović for the reception, saying that the award represents an honor and recognition that they are proud of.
"The Medal for Courage with which Teo, Nikola and Aleksandar were decorated is awarded for an act of personal courage in the security of citizens and the state, outside and above the demands of duty," the statement reads.
