The construction of the promenade along the Morača River, from the Moscow Bridge to the stairs under the Millennium Bridge, began today, and the work is planned to last 75 days.
The works will be carried out in two phases - the first phase includes the path from Njegošev Park to the Moscow Bridge, 100 meters long, while the second phase goes from the Moscow Bridge to the stairs under the Millennium Bridge, 88 meters long.
The contractor is the company "Bombeton", and the value of the project is around 278.000 euros.
"The construction of a shelter along the banks of the Morača River is of great benefit to fellow citizens and is just one of the phases of the Podgorica connectivity project," said Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović during the opening of the works.
According to him, the intention of the new city administration is to "expand the potential of the Morača River as much as possible."
"...So that our fellow citizens can enjoy the charms of the Morača River as much and for as long as possible, to be by the river and to spend as much time as possible with nature. I think that will be of great benefit to all of us. Of course, this is just one of the phases of the project," said Mujović.
He said that the next plan of the new city administration is "to build an even larger trail on the other side of the Morača, which would potentially be some eight kilometers long and connect the locality of Duklja with Mala Gorica."
"That would be the true and full valorization of the Morača's potential and that is what we will strive for, which will be in some of our future work and activity plans. This is commendable today. We are contributing to the beauty of this city and the valorization of our river, so I hope that in some 70-80 working days our fellow citizens will have the full opportunity to enjoy this new resource and potential that we are building," said Mujović.
Acting Director of the Agency for Construction and Development of Podgorica, Dragan Senić, said that Morača is “the green heart of the city and that it should be valorized in the right way”. “What I can say is that no city in the world has a wild river and a canyon in its center, and Podgorica has that, and we, as an ecological state, must promote the idea of a green heart of the city”, said Senić. He added that we must make an effort to leave a green Podgorica for future generations.
"We intend to build 20 kilometers of roads in deep shade in Podgorica in the foreseeable future. To connect Podgorica's parks, Gorica, Ljubović and Malo brdo, Lješkopoljska Gorica, Mirkova Varoš, Preko Morača, Blokove, new neighborhoods, Stara Varoš, Stari Aerodrom, Sitna nervatura via local routes and with the suburban settlements of Konik, Masline, two Gorices in the north and Zagorič, into this green urbanism," said Senić.
Responding to journalists' questions about when the second phase will be completed and whether it will be connected to the first, Senić said that "work cannot be carried out in the stretch to Labud Beach due to property-legal relations."
When asked why work had begun if property disputes had not been resolved, Senić replied:
"Because we want to valorize this part that is needed. As soon as we solve that, we have a contractor who will continue work on the first phase. We are working to solve that. You know that the biggest problem in solving all project tasks and projects in general is property and legal relations."
Senić pointed out that "the quay will operate on one level from Vezir Bridge to Blaž Bridge and will thus be adapted to people with special needs and accessible to children."
