Preokret councilor in Danilovgrad, Vuk Iković, announced that today, on behalf of "a third of the councilors", he submitted a request to the President of the Municipal Assembly, Predrag Pajović, to convene a session at which a decision will be made on calling a referendum.
At it, as he explained, citizens would directly express their views and make a decision on whether they accept "a dramatic increase in water prices that finances the increase in salaries of employees in the municipal water supply company."
Iković submitted to the media a document signed by 12 councilors.
"A third of the councilors supported the citizens' initiative to repeal the Decision on the increase in water service prices, primarily because such prices are unsustainable for the living standards of the citizens of Danilovgrad and because the quality of water service does not justify the previous salaries of employees in this municipal company, and especially not their increase at the expense of citizens and by appropriating resources that are a public good. However, the councilor majority rejected this citizens' initiative, after which the councilor majority and the President of the Assembly evaded their legal obligation to call a local referendum and to refer their rejection of the citizens' initiative to those who elected them for review," Iković announced.

It states that the undersigned councilors will convene the session themselves, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure, if the head of the local parliament does not do so within the prescribed 15-day period.
"We will regularly inform citizens about all subsequent developments regarding the calling of the local referendum, as they are the only ones invited to make the final decision on the price of water services. I would like to thank my fellow opposition councilors who proposed the Decision on calling the referendum and on this occasion requested the convening of an extraordinary session to adopt it," the statement reads.
