Since the beginning of the year, Montenegrin citizens have voluntarily surrendered 3.243 weapons, 109.488 pieces of ammunition, 356 hand grenades and several hundred parts of weapons and explosive devices, the Police Directorate announced.

The weapons and ammunition were handed over as part of the "Respect Life, Return Weapons" campaign, which the Police Directorate has been implementing for many years.

Police said six weapons, 26 rounds of ammunition, four hand grenades, dynamite and detonator caps were voluntarily returned on Sunday.

"In Podgorica, Danilovgrad and Cetinje, citizens voluntarily handed over five weapons to the police, four of which were pistols and one rifle, as well as 26 pieces of ammunition of various calibers," the police said.

They stated that four hand grenades, as well as 14 kilograms of dynamite and 25 detonator caps, were voluntarily returned to police officers in Kotor and Tivat.

"A rifle was voluntarily handed over to the police in Pljevlja," the statement said.

It is stated that by calling 122, citizens can return weapons without any legal, criminal or misdemeanor liability and regardless of whether they possess the weapon illegally or legally.

The police reminded that they have also launched a toll-free SOS telephone number 19969, as well as an e-mail address sos@policija.me, for reporting threatening behavior and violence related to weapon possession, as a mechanism for closer cooperation and active participation of the police and citizens in order to create a safer environment.
