The N. family from Bijelo Polje protested today in front of the Ministry of Justice building in the center of Podgorica, demanding an investigation into all attacks on them and their property, which, they claim, contributed to the stress under which HN recently seriously injured a neighbor's dog.

HN is suspected of injuring a neighbor's dog in the village of Prijelozi near Bijelo Polje about ten days ago.

She said yesterday that she was aware that she should not have acted that way, that there was no justification for it.

"My four-year-old daughter is not allowed to leave the house, she wakes up every night from stress. I am a mother, I was pulled by that maternal instinct, I am sorry I did it. Please, for the sake of the children, if necessary, I will run an asylum and feed the dogs. I will die without children," she told HN today.

Her family protested in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs building yesterday.

The family's attorney, lawyer Marina Vlahović, said yesterday that no violence against animals is justified, but HN's case needs to be looked at more broadly, in order to clarify the circumstances that led to her reaction - injuring the neighbor's dog.

"The HN family faces serious challenges and seeks a fair resolution to this case, and it expresses deep remorse and regret for the actions taken, the consequences that have occurred, and is ready to help ensure that each of the remaining dogs that are in inhumane conditions are adequately cared for," said Vlahović.

As previously stated by the Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Administration, the injuries to the dog suspected of being caused by HN are such that the animal's health condition requires special monitoring, which is why the dog was sent for further examination in Podgorica.

The Administration, led by Vladimir Đaković, also said that the dog has been temporarily placed in the pet shelter of the NGO "Kuća životinja" and that, upon recovery, it will be returned to its owner. The Administration also announced that it will reimburse the costs of treating the injured animal.

The criminal offense for which HN was charged is punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to two years.
