The Agency for Audiovisual Media Services (AMU) organized workshops in schools in Podgorica, Tuzi and Cetinje to raise awareness about the importance of media literacy and responsible behavior in the media and digital space.

AMU announced that media literacy workshops were organized in the elementary schools (ES) "Božidar Vuković Podgoričanin" and "Novka Ubović" in Podgorica, the elementary school "Mahmut Lekić" in Tuzi, and the Secondary Vocational School in Cetinje.

"The special importance of the workshops is reflected in the work with schools where children from minority ethnic groups study in large numbers, such as students from the Roma population (Primary School "Božidar Vuković Podgoričanin") and the Albanian community (Primary School "Mahmut Lekić"), which further strengthens an inclusive and equal approach to education," the statement says.

AMU said that through interactivity and active participation, students acquired new knowledge, while, on the other hand, critical thinking, teamwork, and developing communication skills enabled young people to better understand the constantly changing modern media maze.

"Through dynamic examples and practical tasks, media literacy workshops provide a meaningful learning experience, which AMU has been striving to convey to the youngest generations for years," the statement said.

As stated by AMU, the workshops led by Professor Nenad Vujadinović encourage new thinking, both among children and teachers, helping them to recognize disinformation, analyze media messages, and develop awareness of the influence of digital platforms, especially those on mobile phones, on the formation of attitudes and decisions.

"During the workshops, students were given handbooks on media and digital literacy in the Montenegrin language, while in Tuzi the handbooks were also available in Albanian, enabling young people from different communities to further develop and apply the acquired knowledge in their everyday lives in the languages they use," the statement said.

The AMU thanked the schools for their openness and willingness to be part of the joint efforts that the Agency systematically and practically invests in strengthening media literacy.

"Through continuous education, through adapted and inclusive work methods, we strive to empower young generations to develop resilience to media manipulation, acquire skills in recognizing false information, and better understand how the media shapes their everyday lives," the statement says.
