The Institute for Education claims that it acted within its jurisdiction when it learned that a student was suffering violence at the "Branko Božović" Elementary School.
They reacted to the text "Teacher temporarily suspended from teaching, long-awaited response to allegations of violence and sexual harassment", published today in Vijesti.
"In accordance with Articles 61-65 of the Media Law, we request that you publish a denial of the allegations contained in your text published on the Vijesti portal on March 6, 2025, "CIN-CG: Teacher temporarily suspended from teaching, long-awaited reaction to allegations of violence and sexual harassment", in which you tendentiously state that the management of the Institute for Education, after learning that some students were suffering violence at the Elementary School "Branko Božović", did not immediately react adequately. We would like to deny you and remind you that in this case we acted in accordance with the jurisdiction of the Institute for Education.
We reiterate that the responsibility of the Institute for Education is to provide advisory support, not to impose punitive measures. You tend to shift responsibility for a possible case of sexual harassment and physical violence by a teacher towards students to the management of the Institute for Education, and not to the School. The Report on Determining the Quality of Educational Work contains recommendations addressed to the School on how to act preventively and react in the event of violence. In the Report on External Determining the Quality of Educational Work, 13% of surveyed students state that there are cases of physical violence by teachers at the School. However, the educational supervisor who worked on the key area of the Ethos of the institution does not state that the students confirmed the credibility of these survey claims to her during the interview. In the aforementioned Report, the supervisor does not mention any forms of sexual harassment by any teacher at the school.
"We believe that the part of the text that refers to the reaction of the Institute's management to the alleged inadequate response is based on inaccurate and unverified information, which damages the reputation of the Institute for Education. We expect you to publish this denial in accordance with the Media Law and the principles of journalistic ethics, in order to avoid further disinformation of the public," the response reads.
