UP: Police officers acted legally in the case of filing a misdemeanor report against Mandić

In the case of filing a misdemeanor report against Brano Mandić, police officers acted legally, without the intention of undermining or targeting an individual, and with equal treatment towards all citizens, the Police Directorate announced.

"Regarding the allegations by certain organizations that the Police Directorate is prosecuting Brano Mandić, we reject them as untrue, given that criminal and misdemeanor proceedings represent different categories and do not carry the same weight in court proceedings," it was announced.

They also add that the Misdemeanor Court will assess the merits of the misdemeanor report filed.

"On November 28.11.2024, XNUMX, the Šušić law firm, as the legal representative of Aleksandar Stamatović, filed a written complaint against journalist Bran Mandić with the Podgorica Security Department due to alleged insults that Mandić made in a post on the social network Facebook, as a public space, which contains the following words in which Mandić describes Stamatović: 'How lucky for a journalist to be the target or the target of a Greek telos, and not the Serbian body, or the object of desire of an old goat who shows the youth that without him there is no hit or show without a tavern joke with which we will relax the atmosphere since we are still tense from the three-decade anti-Serbian persecution. If the tension continues, we can also say that it is under the skirt the target, not the object...' Acting on the filed complaint, that is, taking measures and actions ex officio and in accordance with the law, police officers informed the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica about the incident, who stated that in the above-mentioned case there was no "the elements of a criminal offense are acquired, but rather that officers of the Podgorica Security Department assess the possible existence of a violation," the statement reads.

They add that after reviewing the submitted report and analyzing the content of the post on social media, "it was assessed that it contains elements of a misdemeanor, specifically from Article 7 of the Public Order and Peace Act - insulting and insolent behavior."

"In this regard, and as required by legal procedure, a request has been submitted to the Misdemeanor Court to initiate misdemeanor proceedings against Bran Mandić," it was announced.
