The fire that broke out on Saturday in the territory of Žabljak is still active, and firefighters and employees of the Durmitor National Park (NP) are on the scene.

A police helicopter joined in to help extinguish the fire from the air, and they were additionally troubled by the fact that the fire broke out at another location, where they had to send some firefighters with machinery.

The Commander of the Žabljak Protection and Rescue Service, Drago Popović, appeals to citizens not to burn their properties.

"In the part where the pine forest is included, the situation is somewhat better this morning. With the help of the Durmitor National Park and our fire department, we managed to suppress the fire to a large extent. It does not threaten buildings, it is currently far from the borders of the NP, but it is still burning and we have not yet brought it under control. We have been in contact with the Directorate for Protection and Rescue since this morning, we expect their support from the air to help us bring the fire on Crni Vrh, above the village of Međužvalje, under control," Popović told TV Vijesti.

He added that they now have a second fire that broke out in the village of Linkovići.

"There is a fire around the buildings, although it is grass. Another part of the unit went there. We appeal to people once again, the vegetation is dry, we are torn apart. I see that it is also burning in Pljevlja and Danilovgrad. The wind is strong, the situation can be further complicated. Due to irresponsible burning and cleaning of properties, someone's building can burn down or someone's life can be put in question," said Popović.
