Silencing media workers through so-called strategic, targeted lawsuits represents an attack on freedom of speech and freedom of the media, as important segments of democracy and one of the pillars on which free and democratic societies rest, said Bosniak Party MP Edina Dešić.
"In this context, I fully support journalist Bran Mandić and stand firmly by his right to freely and without consequences publicly express his views, with which I must admit, I very often disagree (not in this case), and not to be the subject of hearings, investigations and other proceedings before competent authorities because of his views," she said.
He believes that, as public figures and as someone who expresses their opinions through the media, they must be prepared for the fact that these positions and opinions will be subject to criticism and that, not infrequently, they will not personally like that criticism.
"But that is not a reason to try to intimidate and silence different opinions; on the contrary, it is the responsibility of all of us to encourage pluralism of opinion. I call on state authorities to act with much more sensitivity in these and similar cases, preserving freedom of speech and media freedom as important," the BS MP said.
