To further encourage the public to get involved in the process of adopting abandoned dogs, Podgorica's "Čistoća" created the website Tvoj pas (tvojpas.me), which has already published the profiles of some of the dogs looking for a home, and the plan is for this location to also be a place to spread stories with happy endings.
Stating that it is not even known how many dogs are on the streets of Podgorica, "Čistoća" announced on its website that the Shelter for Abandoned Pets in Vreli Ribničke, which operates within the framework of that utility company, has 164 boxes and that each one is full.
"The shelter is a place for temporary accommodation and is not intended for the permanent care of stray dogs. In accordance with the application of the 'catch, neuter, release' principle, which aims to reduce the number of stray dogs, after medical treatment and the prescribed period of time they must spend in the shelter, the dogs are returned to public areas or are adopted, and the responsible veterinarian also tags (chipping) each dog before leaving the shelter," state "Čistoća".
They added that, regardless of the shelter's work, the capital has recently been facing an increasing number of abandoned dogs, as well as the spread of various viruses and diseases that can be fatal for dogs, especially puppies.
"This website is designed to raise awareness among citizens, to encourage and facilitate the involvement of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), volunteers and citizens in the process of finding homes for dogs, adoption and other useful information for dog owners. In addition to employees from 'Čistoća' doo, the dogs are also cared for by the veterinary service and volunteers involved in the dog adoption process," they state.
The website tvojpas.me also published information regarding adoption, including that potential adopters must meet certain requirements and, as it says, have an account on the platform. As explained, after registering and selecting the dog they want to adopt, users will be able to track the status of their request.
In the "dogs for adoption" section, profiles of dogs seeking homes are published, and the site also allows searching, or filtering, by defined criteria (age, gender, breed...).
There is also a "lost/found" category on the page, through which it will be possible to advertise if someone loses or finds a dog.
Visits to the Vrela Shelter for Abandoned Pets are allowed every working day from 15:16 PM to 15:18 PM, and in order for as many dogs from the Shelter as possible to find new owners, the deadlines for applying for adoption are Thursdays from 10:12 PM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM and Saturdays from XNUMX:XNUMX AM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM.
