The Ministry of Culture and Media welcomes the decision of the acting director of the Police Directorate, Lazar Šćepanović, to review the merits of filing a request for a misdemeanor report against journalist and columnist Bran Mandić, the institution announced.
"It is important that every procedure is conducted transparently and in accordance with the law. Legal certainty and consistent application of legal procedures are key to preserving democratic values. Therefore, it is important to unequivocally determine all the circumstances of the merits of submitting a request to initiate a misdemeanor report, in order to avoid any possible ambiguities," said Minister of Culture and Media Tamara Vujović.
Šćepanović announced today that he has requested a detailed analysis of the assessment of the existence of a violation in the case of the report filed against Mandić.
On March 7, Mandić informed the public that the Police Directorate had initiated proceedings against him before the Minor Offences Court in Podgorica due to allegations from a column in which he criticized a public speech by University of Montenegro professor Aleksandar Stamatović.
