Stray dogs killed ten of the 15 sheep of the Simunović family from the Nikšić settlement of Straševina.

"My daughter-in-law told me that stray dogs broke into the building during the night and out of 15 large and small sheep, ten were killed, while the rest were injured. It was raining heavily, so nothing was heard. This is not the first time this has happened. For the last 15 years, we have had a big problem with stray dogs. Every now and then they attacked the sheep, and five times they caused us damage," he told "Vijesti". Mitar Simunovic.

The Simunović family's sheep were attacked by dogs several times while they were grazing, near their family home, and it is truly fortunate that none of the family members were injured.

"For 15 years we have been appealing and demanding that the dog problem be solved. We have contacted the municipal police, the shelter and the police in vain, they do not have a solution for it, and a person cannot and should not seek a solution on their own. We do not know what to do except stop keeping livestock," Simunović said indignantly.

At the time the "Vijesti" crew was at the Simunovićs' house, there were two dogs not far from their house.

"There are seven to 15 of them here every day. It's a huge invasion. I don't know what to do or what to say," said Simunović.

For more than a decade, one of the most pressing problems in the Nikšić municipality has been stray dogs. They can be found in almost all locations, both in the city center and in suburban areas. For years, the municipality has allocated hundreds of thousands of euros in compensation for bites, and in five years it has paid out around two million euros in court fees.

In Nikšić, in Brestice, there is a shelter for dogs, but its capacity has long been insufficient, so the local administration has built a new shelter for dogs in the Studenački glavici area, on 18,5 thousand square meters, which should be open by the end of the month. They hope that its opening will solve the problem of abandoned dogs.
