The Center for Civic Education (CCE) announced today that it has sent an Urgency to the Capital City of Podgorica for urgent action on the Initiative for signing an agreement with the Professional Service of the Higher Court in Podgorica, which would enable the implementation of the educational measure of community service or humanitarian work for minors.
"The initiative was launched back in May 2023, but the previous administration took the necessary steps. We expect the new leadership to recognize its importance and provide juvenile offenders with the opportunity for reintegration and personal development through socially responsible engagement," the CCE said on the social network Iks.
The non-governmental organization (NGO) stated that data from their research on peer violence underscores the need for broader engagement.
"Every fourth (25.8%) citizen knows a minor convicted of a crime. Every fifth (20.9%) high school student knows a minor convicted of a crime," CCE said.
They stated that they are appealing to the Capital City of Podgorica to support this initiative as soon as possible and thus enable young people to choose the path of positive change and responsibility through community service.
