The head of the Social Democrats parliamentary group and representative of the European Union, Boris Mugoša, said that he would initiate a parliamentary hearing on the topic of negative natural growth in two-thirds of municipalities.
"Vijesti" announced this morning that, according to Monstat data, 16 out of 25 municipalities, mostly in the north of Montenegro, recorded negative natural growth last year.
"For years, I have been insisting on the necessity of developing a demographic development strategy, because the data is consistently more than worrying. For years, parliamentary conclusions have been adopted at my suggestion to develop such a strategy, but nothing has come of it yet," Mugoša said.
He says that, "according to certain information," the adoption of a demographic development strategy is planned by the end of the year.
"These are things that need to be much more in focus; these are life-changing topics that require concrete action from many sectors and segments of society," Mugoša said.
He announced that he would initiate a hearing on this topic in parliament, because "in this way we must try to make these immensely important topics more visible and prioritized."
