The Secretariat for Spatial Planning of the Municipality of Tivat organized an educational visit to the Tivat-Kotor Wastewater Treatment Plant in Klačina, for students of the "Branko Brinić" Elementary School, in anticipation of World Forest Day and World Water Day.

"The students had the opportunity to learn about the operation of the plant - the method of accepting wastewater, the technological process of purification and the process of releasing purified water, as well as the treatment of sewage sludge. The students planted three olive seedlings on the site of the plant. Olives were selected as a species suitable for planting through the agroforestry model, which is represented in the dendroflora of the rural area of Luštica," the local administration announced.

World Forest Day is celebrated on March 21. The date was established in 1971 at the initiative of the European Agricultural Confederation when it was celebrated as the Day of Forests, and the UN General Assembly adopted this environmental date in 2012.

This day is celebrated with the aim of reminding people of the importance of forests and forest ecosystems, and to contribute to their conservation and sustainable management. Forests are the natural habitat of numerous plants, animals, fungi and microorganisms, and therefore represent one of the most complex terrestrial ecosystems and a natural resource of exceptional importance for overall biodiversity. The initiative to celebrate World Water Day originated from the United Nations Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development, held in 1992.

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution designating March 22 of each year as World Water Day. This date is celebrated to draw attention to the exceptional importance of water and water resources, the need to preserve them, as well as the lack of drinking water in many parts of the world.

The Secretariat for Spatial Planning thanked the "Branko Brinić" Elementary School for their cooperation, as well as the employees of the Wastewater Treatment Plant who, as they stated, contributed to the education and presented gifts to the event participants.
