Much still needs to be done when it comes to the representation of Bosniaks in institutions, the education system, and the public media space.
This was announced by the Bosniak Council in Montenegro, congratulating members of the Bosniak people on March 22nd - Bosniak Day in Montenegro.
"On this day, in 2003, prominent representatives of the Bosniak people, gathered in Podgorica, adopted the Declaration on the Reaffirmation of the National Name Bosniak. This act confirmed the commitment to the return of the traditional and historical name Bosniak, and therefore March 22nd represents one of the most important dates for Bosniaks in Montenegro. This commitment was confirmed in population censuses, including the latest one, where the national name Bosniak and the Bosnian language are generally accepted by our compatriots. Through the maturation of national consciousness, members of the Bosniak people clearly and unequivocally confirm their autochthonousness and foundation in the territory of Montenegro, as well as the need to nurture their identity, linguistic and cultural uniqueness in a multiethnic and democratic society. We believe that, in the past two decades, a lot has been done to affirm the cultural, linguistic and identity uniqueness of Bosniaks in Montenegro, but that much more needs to be done when it comes to representation in institutions, the educational system and the public media space," it says in press release.
They said that the Bosniak Council in Montenegro will be the institutional initiator of initiatives that "in a systematic and well-founded manner" affirm, represent and valorize the cultural heritage of Bosniaks and support creators and "values that elevate cultural identity, as the essence of national identity."
"In that sense, this year too, we will provide full support to the traditional event 'Days of Bosniak Culture', where, through a series of events and carefully selected content, our cultural creativity from various fields will be presented," they announced.
