On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), a delegation from the Municipality of Pljevlja led by the Mayor, Dario Vraneš, laid a wreath at the monument to Predrag Peđa Leovac, who died as a lieutenant in the Yugoslav Army at Košare in 1999.
The monument to Leovac was erected at the entrance to the Vodice city park, in one of the most attractive locations in the city, and was ceremonially unveiled on St. Vitus' Day (June 28) last year.
The Municipal delegation, as stated in the statement of the Office of the Mayor, expressed deep respect and gratitude for all the victims in the defense of the homeland.
By paying tribute to Leovac, "who with his life testified to courage and loyalty to his people, the Municipality of Pljevlja confirms its commitment to preserving the memory of the tragic events of 1999 and respecting all who gave their lives for freedom."
"Today marks the 26th anniversary of the criminal NATO aggression against our country and people. With a sense of pride and sadness, we remember all the heroes who died during the NATO bombing. Their sacrifice obliges us to persevere in preserving the truth, to cultivate a culture of remembrance and remembrance of all heroes - from those of Kosovo to the present day, and to pass on their immortal deeds to future generations," Vranes emphasized.
The NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia began on March 24, 1999 and lasted for 78 days.
"Leaving lasting consequences for the people and the country. In those tragic days, numerous innocent civilians, soldiers and police officers died, and the material destruction and human suffering left an indelible mark on our past. Preserving historical truth and cultivating a culture of remembrance remains a permanent duty of all of us, in order to truly contribute to building a more just society," the statement said.
