Strengthening the dialogue between science and diplomacy is urgently needed in response to global challenges, according to a joint statement by ministers participating in the Global Ministerial Dialogue on Science Diplomacy in Paris.
Minister of Education, Science and Innovation Anđela Jakšić Stojanović participated in the event, which was held on Tuesday and Wednesday at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
As announced by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MESI), the Global Ministerial Dialogue brought together ministers and senior officials from around the world, with the aim of strengthening international scientific cooperation and using science diplomacy to address global challenges.
"Ministers participating in the Global Ministerial Dialogue on Science Diplomacy adopted a joint statement recognizing the urgent need to strengthen the dialogue between science and diplomacy in response to global challenges," the statement said.
The statement emphasized that science diplomacy is important in promoting international cooperation, strengthening trust in science, promoting open access to scientific data and databases, and intensifying cooperation between countries in science, technology, and innovation.
"The Ministers called on UNESCO, in collaboration with United Nations agencies, scientific organizations, the private sector and civil society, to support Member States in developing capacities for science diplomacy and ensuring the coherence of science, technology and innovation policies with external objectives," the statement said.
As stated, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to UNESCO in using science diplomacy for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology said that Jakšić Stojanović had the opportunity to discuss with ministers and senior officials from other countries Montenegro's priorities in the field of science, innovation and technological development, as well as opportunities for future joint projects and international cooperation in these areas.
"Participation in this prestigious event further strengthens Montenegro's position in the international scientific framework and confirms its commitment to strengthening scientific diplomacy and global cooperation with the aim of development and innovation," the statement said.
