Montenegro has confirmed with concrete results that it is a responsible partner and that it is ready to respond to migration challenges and contribute to the security of the region and Europe, said the Director of the European Asylum Agency (EUAA) Nina Gregori.

As announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), the relevant Minister Danilo Šaranović participated in the ministerial meeting within the Brdo Process in Slovenia.

It is stated that the aim of the meeting is to strengthen political stability and cooperation in Southeast Europe and support the countries of the Western Balkans on their path towards the European Union (EU).

The Ministry of Interior said that Šaranović and Gregory signed a Roadmap for cooperation between Montenegro and the EUAA for the period from now to 2027.

"This strategic document, aligned with national priorities and EU standards, represents a significant step in Montenegro's preparation for full participation in the Common European Asylum System (CEAS)," the statement said.

Gregori stressed that she is convinced that the Ministry of the Interior is on the right track and emphasized that everything that has been done in this area in the previous period is not just fulfilling obligations on paper, but has actually been implemented and is working in practice.

"With concrete results, Montenegro has confirmed its credibility as a responsible partner, its readiness to respond to migration challenges and contribute to the security of the region and Europe," said Gregory.

The Ministry of Interior stated that this year's meeting of ministers on Brdo was an occasion to discuss important topics, with a focus on strengthening the joint response to the threats posed by terrorism and human trafficking.

During the discussion on strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorist threats, Šaranović emphasized that only through joint efforts, through regional cooperation and international support, can sustainable results be achieved in the fight against terrorism and extremism in the Western Balkans.

The Ministry of Interior said that, during numerous bilateral meetings, Šaranović also met with the EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, Bartjan Vegter, where a joint commitment to recognizing the online dimension of terrorism as one of the priority areas for further development and improvement was confirmed.

"It was concluded that a system of monitoring and early detection of threats is of particular importance for building mechanisms that enable a rapid and effective response to new challenges in the fight against terrorism and extremism," the statement said.
