Despite numerous attempts, the Mojkovac Health Center has been unable to hire another pediatrician. The institution has had only one pediatrician for 15 years.
As they explain, a total of 885 children under 16 years of age and 575 from 17 to 100 years of age are registered with the selected doctor. They also remind that according to the Rulebook on detailed conditions regarding standards, norms and methods of providing primary health care (“Official Gazette of Montenegro” No. 10/08, 01/12, 64/17 and 77/20), the average number of patients for the selected doctor for children is 1.500, or at least 1.000, and at most 2.000.
"One pediatrician is working because there are no interested doctors to work and live in Mojkovac. There were no candidates for the public advertisements for the employment of pediatricians, as well as other missing specialist doctors. There were no candidates for the competitions announced for the award of specialization in pediatrics. In 2024 alone, we announced six competitions, in 2023 five, and so on for years," the institution told "Vijesti".
They claim that a competition was announced this year, but no one applied.
A woman from Mojkovac, whose child is a patient at the Mojkovac Health Center, recently spoke to "Vijesti" and said that parents face great challenges when the only pediatrician in Mojkovac is on sick leave. Then, she explains, they take the sick child to the emergency room, and then receive directions to Bijelo Polje, Berane, or even Podgorica. That's how it is these days, she claims.
However, the Mojkovac Health Center says that the only pediatrician has never been on sick leave since 2010, and is now on annual leave. A pediatrician from the Kolašin Health Center has been hired as a replacement.
