The University of Montenegro and the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation have announced the establishment of a Study Program for Special Education and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Philosophy in Nikšić.
The program aims to educate experts in the field of education and rehabilitation of children and adults with various disabilities, the University of Montenegro announced.
Today's protest by parents of children with autism was announced as one of the key demands to establish a study program that would educate staff capable of working with people with autism.
As announced, a study program and an initiative for obtaining qualifications have been prepared, which creates the conditions for launching the accreditation and licensing process.
The program is designed according to the 3+2 year model and includes three modules: Developmental disabilities and disorders, Speech and hearing impairments and disorders, and Behavioral disorders.
"Students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to work in schools, rehabilitation centers, and various institutions that deal with the support and inclusion of people with disabilities," say the University of Montenegro.
The commission, headed by the Vice-Rector for Education, Prof. Dr. Veselin Mićanović, prepared a study for the accreditation of the Study Program for Special Education and Rehabilitation in accordance with the current law on higher education according to the 3+2 model.
It is expected that the accreditation process and obtaining a license to open will be completed by the enrollment deadline for the 2025/2026 academic year.
"The new study program has been prepared for accreditation based on an analysis of needs in the Montenegrin education system."The establishment of this study program represents a significant contribution to the development of the system of inclusive education and professional support in Montenegro, and responds to the contemporary needs of society and European standards in the field of education and rehabilitation," the statement reads.
