The Tourist Organization (TO) of Bar supported the production of a monograph and documentary film about the sunken yacht "Rumija" by the non-governmental association "Manoveki", which was also the only application received in response to the public call for funding for cultural heritage valorization projects.
This project was financed through a public call for participation in the process of distributing funds for the implementation of the project for the valorization of the cultural heritage of the Municipality of Bar, which includes archaeological research, conservation and restoration works, reconstruction and promotion of cultural assets.
This was announced by the Bar Tourist Office and added that the contract for the implementation of the project was signed on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the premises of the Bar Tourist Organization, with representatives of the NGO "Manoveki", which is the project leader.
"The project is aimed at documenting and presenting the significance of the yacht "Rumija", which has the status of a cultural asset and is a former symbol of the Bar coast and maritime tradition, whose traces are preserved today in the depths of the Adriatic Sea. Through the creation of a monograph and the production of a documentary film, the public will be introduced to the historical value of this ship, as well as the broader story of the Bar coast and its maritime past," said the Bar Tourist Organization.
The project will, as they stated, promote Milan Šćekić's months-long archival research, many specifics concerning the yacht Rumija, its creation, its role in the Balkan Wars, World War I, and details related to its sinking.
One of the main goals of this project is to publish a book, a monograph, about these details. Another important goal of the project is to shoot and promote a documentary film about the yacht "Rumija".
"The Bar Tourist Organization is dedicated to the preservation and affirmation of cultural heritage. We believe that projects like this contribute not only to a better understanding of our past, but also to the development of sustainable cultural tourism, which is one of the strategic goals of our institution," they emphasized.
In response to the aforementioned public call for participation in the funding allocation process, the Tourist Organization of Bar received one application. By decision of the Commission, which was appointed by the Bar Municipal Assembly, the funds were allocated to the NGO “Manoveki”.
The Bar Tourist Organization is dedicated to preserving and promoting cultural heritage, they say. They believe that projects like this contribute not only to a better understanding of our past, but also to the development of sustainable cultural tourism, which is one of the strategic goals of their institution, they concluded.
They will continue to strive to provide support to projects that contribute to the promotion and protection of the cultural values of the Municipality of Bar, with special emphasis on those that include research work, artistic interpretation and public education.
