Full professor at the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Kotor, Prof. Dr. Špiro Ivošević, is the recipient of the award for his special contribution to the development of scientific research and the international positioning of the University of Montenegro in 2024.
The award was presented to him by the Rector of the University of Montenegro, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Božović, at a ceremonial session of the Senate of the University of Montenegro.
He received the award at the proposal of the Council of the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Kotor, which, after reviewing the results achieved during the previous academic year, concluded that Ivošević fully deserves such recognition and award for his work, given his rich scientific and research activity, the University of Montenegro announced.
"During the given period, Prof. Dr. Špiro Ivošević was the co-author of four scientific papers published in highly ranked international journals from the Web of Science database (SCI(E)), which deal with interdisciplinary research into chemometrics, structural degradation and aging of ships, and innovative solutions for strengthening steel ship structures. Professor Ivošević's work was published as a chapter in an international monograph in the field of corrosion and materials. He participated in several international conferences, where he was the author or co-author of seven professional and scientific papers presented in the European and regional environment. Prof. Ivošević's works are also distinguished by a representative number of citations as a significant measure of scientific recognition," the statement reads.
Ivošević's contribution to motivating young researchers and their engagement through work on doctoral and master's studies was particularly highlighted, where research is directed towards solutions that "can position Montenegro as a country that promotes offshore wind energy and thus provides potential projects of national and wider importance."
"In addition to his academic contribution, Prof. Dr. Špiro Ivošević also played an important role in international projects - as the coordinator of the project teams of the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Kotor on two projects funded by the Interreg program, co-financed by the European Union. The MARROBO project deals with the development of capacities for the application of maritime robotics, creating the basis for the procurement of a latest generation underwater drone and creating the first training for an underwater robotics operator at the University of Montenegro. The ROBORIVER project is focused on the use of advanced underwater robots that enable monitoring and analysis of water in places that are difficult to access in the Danube River area," they say from the UCG.
In the academic year 2023/2024, he served as the chairman of the organizing committee of the 3rd International Maritime Conference Kotor – International Maritime Conference – KIMC 2023, as well as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Maritime Sciences Kotor – Journal of Maritime Sciences (JMS).
"In addition to his home institution, Professor Ivošević was also engaged as a lecturer at the Faculty of Maritime Studies of the University of Dubrovnik during the same period, contributing to regional academic cooperation and the promotion of the University of Montenegro internationally. This award recognizes not only the continuous scientific contribution of Prof. Dr. Špiro Ivošević, but also his dedicated work on improving the quality of higher education, international networking, as well as the affirmation of the research activities of the University of Montenegro. The Faculty of Maritime Studies in Kotor expresses particular satisfaction with this significant recognition, which testifies to the high professional standard and scientific excellence of its teachers," the statement reads.
