The Scouts of Montenegro continued with the "Boranka" campaign and planted more than a thousand black pine seedlings on very inaccessible and hard terrain near Ljubotinje, in the Cetinje municipality. More than 60 volunteers, led by the Scouts of Montenegro, participated in the campaign, which symbolically opened a new afforestation season.

As announced by the Scouts' Association of Montenegro (SICG), their goal was to, in addition to afforestation, thoroughly explore the terrain, map locations and, in cooperation with the Directorate for Forest Management and Hunting Areas of Montenegro, prepare for mass afforestation campaigns in the fall.

"Accustomed to large numbers, such as 10.000 seedlings planted in one day at Vojnik, near Nikšić, this time we faced a different challenge – difficult, demanding terrain. We planted carefully, but that's just the beginning. We plan even more – many more seedlings in the autumn season," said Peko Vukadinović, president of SICG.

The "Boranka" campaign, launched by scouts last year, is the largest volunteer action to reforest burned areas in Montenegro.

According to the campaign's main coordinator, Borislav Jovović, the afforestation campaign near Ljubotinje was a "training" - the first, but important step towards autumn planting, which is considered the most effective.

"This is an introduction to the field, but also an invitation to young people to get involved, learn about the importance of forests and recognize nature as a common asset that we must protect. Education, motivation and togetherness will be the keywords of the coming period," said Jovović.

The goal of "Boranka" is to reforest burned areas of Montenegro in those locations where the forest has not been restored. Last year, during six reforestation campaigns, more than 30.000 black pine seedlings were planted on Mount Vojnik, near Nikšić.

This year's first action was held under the auspices of UNICEF Montenegro, in cooperation with the Royal Capital of Cetinje, and the "Gojko Kruška" Scouting Detachment from Cetinje played a key role in its implementation.
