The Ministry of Health has provided 306 thousand euros from the European Union health program (EU4Health) to improve the Montenegrin healthcare system, said the relevant Minister Vojislav Šimun.

He said that, based on applications from the Ministry of Health, the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG) and the Institute of Public Health (IJZ), four new projects will be implemented within the EU4Health program.

Šimun, as announced by the Ministry, emphasized that this further strengthens Montenegro's role in European health initiatives.

According to him, the applications were aligned with priorities in the field of public health and the digitalization of health services.

"As a result of these activities, Montenegro has secured grants totaling 306 thousand euros, which will be used to improve public health in the country," said Šimun.

The Ministry's statement states that the funded projects, which will begin this year, include the digitalization of the healthcare system, the establishment of a cancer registry, the improvement of mental health, as well as support for focal points of the EU4Health program.

The Ministry recalled that EU4Health is the EU's largest health program, with a budget of 5,3 billion euros for the period from 2021 to 2027.

"The program aims to strengthen the resilience of health systems, digitize healthcare, fight cancer, and improve mental health," the statement said.

It is added that Montenegro joined the EU4Health program in January last year, when the agreement was signed in Brussels by Šimun and the then Commissioner for Health, Stella Karikaidis.

"In the coming period, the Ministry of Health will continue to use available EU mechanisms to modernize and improve the healthcare system, with a special focus on the further integration of Montenegro into the European healthcare area," the statement said.

As it is added, the Directorate for IPA and other projects and infrastructure in healthcare within the Ministry of Health particularly contributed to the implementation of the project and the preparation of the application, thanks to which Montenegro received funds.
