Minister of Defense Dragan Krapović said that the recent joint rescue operation by members of the Air Force and Navy of the Army of Montenegro, during which a famous Croatian athlete and Olympian was successfully rescued, Ivica Kostelić, shows how important it is that the different aspects of VCG act as a unified system.
Krapović met today with the Commander of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, Frigate Captain Milan Jevtović, and the Operations Officer of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, Major Velimir Zogović.
The Ministry of Defense recalls in a statement that the aforementioned action was carried out in demanding meteorological and maritime conditions in Montenegrin waters.
Krapović thanked and congratulated all participants in the action, emphasizing that members of the Army demonstrated superior training, dedication and a high level of coordination, thereby "confirming their ability to respond effectively in situations of vital importance for saving human lives."
"This joint operation shows how important it is that the different branches of the Montenegrin Army act as a single system. I am proud of the professionalism and speed of reaction of our sailors and pilots, who have once again proven that they are a support and safety not only for our citizens, but also for all those who need help in our waters and area of responsibility," said Krapović.
The meeting also discussed further improving interoperability and coordination between the Air Force and the Navy, through joint training, exercises and technical capacity improvement.
"The Ministry of Defense of Montenegro will continue to provide strong institutional support to all segments of the Army, so that it is even more prepared to respond to all tasks at home and abroad, in accordance with its constitutional and international obligations," the statement reads.
