The Skadar Lake NP Protection Service received a report today from the residents of Karuč that the construction of illegal floating structures is continuing in the Karuč bay.
The National Parks of Montenegro announced that the construction of these facilities has been underway since October 2024 without documentation and necessary permits from the competent state authorities.
"Also, these objects were in the spotlight of the public when they floated freely on Lake Skadar on two occasions due to storms. Both times, the Skadar Lake NP Protection Service, in order to prevent consequences for biodiversity, secured the objects and returned them to the Karuč area. The Skadar Lake NP filed several reports regarding these illegal objects to the Cetinje Municipal Inspection, the Police Directorate, the ODT, the Environmental and Construction Inspection, as well as the Maritime Safety Inspection. Unfortunately for the locals, nature and Lake Skadar, all were unsuccessful. All inspections declared themselves incompetent in this case," the statement reads.
Today, after a report, supervisors found two people carrying out construction work on illegal structures.
"By implementing measures and activities within our jurisdiction, persons were processed by the ODT, and the prosecutor stated that there were no elements of a criminal offense because the buildings are not built of hard material and they cannot proceed under Article 326a of the Criminal Code 'construction of a building without a report and construction documentation'. After all the activities undertaken, reports, letters, calls, we publicly appeal to state authorities and ask for a reaction and assistance in order to preserve the Karuč Eye and fight against illegal construction, before an accident or ecological disaster occurs due to the inaction of the authorities," the statement reads.
